Activities

  • Establish the status of national PGR policies and any other policies that impinge on PGR conservation, management and utilization. Identify gaps in existing policies.
    • Conduct desk studies to review the existing national PGR-related policies and assess their (in)adequacies

  • Building capacity for policy development and implementation
    • Inception and planning meeting
    • Develop the analytical and technical capacity of actors engaged in national PGRrelated law and policy formulation through training
    • Support sensitization and lobbying for PGR policy positioning in the national policies (lobbying the parliamentarians)
    • Supporting one MSc student in plant genetic resources policy and related areas

  • Develop regional PGR policy guidelines
    • Review national PGR and PGR-related policies
    • Regional consultative workshop
    • Expert meeting to develop comprehensive and appropriate PGR policy guidelines
    • Identify critical gaps between information and resources that are currently available and the demands for research and capacity building services
    • Regional stakeholders’’ workshop
