The Finnish Southern Africa Partnership Programme to Strengthen NEPAD/SANBio Network

What is BioFISA?

BioFISA is a Finnish-Southern Africa Partnership Programme to Strengthen NEPAD/SANBio, funded by the governments of South Africa (DST) and Finland (MFA).

Objective

The objective of the BioFISA Partnership Programme is to develop the Southern African capacities in the area of biosciences and to bring new innovative biosciences related products in the market in order to eradicate poverty and to achieve sustainable development.

To achieve the objectives of the BioFISA Programme, five interlinked components have been designed as follows:

  • Institutional strengthening of the SANBio Secretariat
  • Development of the operating environment
  • Capacity development
  • Network creation and dissemination
  • Identification, development and implementation of project activities among the Network

Purpose

The purpose of BioFISA is to strengthen the operational capacity of NEPAD/African Biosciences Initiative in Southern Africa. It will support SANBio in rolling out the SANBio Business Plan in the twelve member states namely, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Governance

BioFISA Supervisory Board (donors, NEPAD Science and Technology, SANBio member countries) and the BioFISA Steering Committee.
