AU/NEPAD High Level African Panel on Modern Biotechnology held successful second meeting

The AU/NEPAD High Level African Panel on Modern Biotechnology held its second meeting at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt from 14 to 16 January 2006.

During the meeting, the Panel met with the Prime Minister of Egypt, HE Dr Ahmed Nazif, to brief him about their progress and plan of action. The Minister commended the work of the Panel, emphasising the need for specific and focussed recommendations to face the challenges relating to biotechnology in Africa. He also expressed his strong belief in a regional approach to carrying out research and development in Africa.
